Senior Portraits part III. Beauty and the Beach

     It’s only April and there is snow in the forecast so let’s think of warmer days.  I love shooting high school senior portraits the beach. In Western New York our beach weather is short so we make the most of it while it is here. The lake Erie shoreline is home to several public beaches that face the west. This provides us spectacular sunsets that will rival any in the world. Nothing tops being photographed in the sand and surf on a warm summer evening.  So lets go to the beach.  Kick your shoes off and bury your toes in the sand and experience our high school senior photography.

Woodlawn Beach

    Undoubtedly our most popular beach location to shoot is Woodlawn beach. It sits just south of downtown Buffalo in the town of Hamburg.  From the main parking lot their is an interpretive nature boardwalk through wooded wetlands. It leads to the mile long stretch of sandy beach. The chances are good on most evenings that you’re going to view a gorgeous sunset. This is how we like to finish our senior sessions. There are other picturesque attributes at Woodlawn also.  My favorite feature on this beach are the sand dunes.  They are protected as a nesting place for the many bird species in the area. In addition they make a beautiful setting for senior portraits.

A beach for a backyard

    The lake Erie shoreline is home to many private homes and cottages. Maria is lucky enough to live in one of these homes in Lakeview NY. Hence we shot the outdoor location part of her session right in her own backyard. Of course it is an evening with another spectacular sunset.
