Destination Wedding photography : Skaneateles Lake.

Our second wedding of the 2016 season at Fisher Creative Image Photography found us on yet another road trip. This time we were fortunate to once again travel to the scenic Finger Lakes region of New York State at picturesque Skaneateles Lake.

We first met Jennifer and Alex last year when we photographed the wedding of Alex’s sister Vanessa and her husband Adam. We love it when couples watch us work all day and are impressed enough to want to hire us for their wedding. So, we were very disappointed to learn that we were already booked for their original wedding date. As fate would have it Jennifer and Alex had to postpone the wedding due to Alex’s commitment to the military. When the new date was set we were again contacted and were thrilled to be available.

The wedding day started on a clear and crisp afternoon. With temperatures in the low thirties it felt more like January than the very last day of Winter. Our starting location was at the newly built Hilton Garden Inn in the history rich town of Auburn NY. Just ten minutes from Skaneateles Lake, Auburn was the residence of influential historical figures such as Harriet Tubman and William H. Seward who helped slaves to freedom on the Underground Railroad.

The Hilton Garden Inn has a spacious and creative lobby providing us with interesting perspectives and sight lines to use in our images.

From there it was just a short walk to the ceremony at St. Mary’s Catholic church. The wedding party and many guests took advantage of the bright sunshine and light winds and made the five minute stroll. St. Mary’s is a proud old stone structure with beautifully crafted vaulted ceilings making it the perfect backdrop for creating stunning wedding images.

We had the pleasure of working side by side with videographer Zach Kidder of Kidder-Films out of New Orleans LA. Zach came with a full compliment of toys including a drone mounted gopro for a great bird’s eye view of the festivities. It was our first experience with a drone and we quickly found out that it can be a scene stealer. Our groom Alex found it hard to keep a straight face while kissing his bride Jennifer with the drone buzzing overhead. We all enjoyed a good laugh.

The wedding portraits were taken in downtown Skaneateles on the lakefront. It’s a charming small town with the main street lined with quaint boutiques, restaurants to please any palate, and grand old Victorian B&B’s. Despite the frigid temperatures Jennifer and Alex did a great job of making the bright sunshine and blue sky look like a warm July day in the photographs. The crystal clear water of Skaneateles Lake is so clean it is actually used as the town’s drinking water.

The reception was held at central New York’s premier wedding venue, The Lodge at Welch Allyn. Just a few miles from Skaneateles lake, it sits nestled on its own pond in the heart of the Finger Lakes wine country. The reception room was beautifully and  artistically decorated by the bride’s mother, the talented  Thelma Einbinder. She is  owner and interior designer at Interior Transformations out of Syracuse NY. Her attention to detail transformed the space into a stunning spectacle for all to enjoy.

Adding to the festive ambiance was the amazing lighting and music provided by Brian from Visa Versa Entertainment out of Syracuse NY.  The spot lights at introductions and first dances gave the event a fun Broadway feel. The dance floor was a sea of color with ceiling projected lights illuminating guests adorned with light up neon glasses and novelty strobe rings as they danced the night away. Just when you thought the party couldn’t get any better Jennifer and Alex surprised their guests with an amazing fireworks display over the pond. Guests viewed the display from the back deck huddled together on this very memorable frosty evening.

If the early start of this year’s wedding season is any indication I think it will be another great one!
